Latest victim!

And our president says crime isn't as bad as we imagine. Can you imagine how this little kid must have felt?

Toddler saves mom's life

Mar 19 2007 11:15PM

Nelspruit - He's only two years old and a few bricks and a tickey high, but Joshua Hulley-Miller ran all the way to his grandfather's house a kilometre away to fetch help when his mom was shot by robbers.

Louise Hulley-Miller, 25, was shot seven times by robbers - it's thought there were five of them - who attacked Rodeval farm on the Lydenburg road near Nelspruit.

They shot Louise five times in the legs and once each in the chest and hand, and locked the bleeding woman into the main bedroom with her two children, Joshua and 16-month-old Lauren.

The thugs made off with Hulley-Miller's cellphone, laptop computer, engagement and wedding rings and her Toyota car.

Louise's father-in-law, Stuart Hulley-Miller, said his son, Matthew, was near the Botswana border on business when the robbery took place.

'Someone hurt my mommy'

He said Joshua rang the bell at the gate at 07:00 on Saturday morning.

"I found him at the gate just in his underclothes and knew immediately something was wrong."

Joshua apparently said that "someone hurt my mommy so much".

"While I phoned the ambulance and J&M Security we raced over to their house." Hulley-Miller found his daughter-in-law slumped over the bedside table in the main bedroom, watching over her daughter. She was still fully conscious. Louise had been shot three times in the right leg, twice in the left one, and in her hand and chest.

Hulley-Miller snr said on Monday: "The last shot went through her lung. She's in the ICU at Nelspruit Medi-Clinic and it looks as if she's going to make it."

Andrew Calitz, operational manager of J&M Security said he and Hulley-Miller had loaded her in the vehicle and met the ambulance halfway to the farm.

Hulley-Miller snr said it appeared the robbery took place between 22:00 and 23:00 on Friday night.

Although no one had been able to speak to her yet, it is assumed Louise helped Joshua through the burglar bars to go and fetch help.

"It's a miracle that Joshua found our house and was so brave. He can scarcely reach the bell on the gate. I'm so proud of him," he said.

It's thought that the robbers were wearing police uniforms, because Joshua became hysterical when the police arrived to investigate. Stolen vehicle found He kept asking his father who these people were and if they were going to shoot his mommy again.

Hulley-Miller snr said: "I'm angry. How will Louise and the family get through this trauma? They didn't harm anybody.

"Why couldn't they (the robbers) just take what they wanted and leave Louise alone?"

Police spokesperson Dawie Pretorius said the stolen vehicle was found on Saturday morning near the Riverside shopping centre in Nelspruit.

His Grace is sufficient

A petition came around through my email last night to send to President Bush to do something about the crime in the country.Just two days ago another petition came through to send to our (South African) president Mr Mbeki. It got me thinking how EVERY country has its problems. How EVERY home has its problems etc etc!! It is so easy to become negative and drawn in to every bad situation. I find that I easily become depressed when I read the newspaper or watch the news on TV. There is just SO much violence out there that it can make one very fearful.

YET-I know why the world is the way it is. We only have to turn to our bible to read the sad sad history of the world.Sometimes I get angry -righteous anger is ok :-) I feel really sad for people stuck in this world that don't believe in a God who can overcome this AND HAS, through His Son. I know that I would not be able to survive this life if it were not for the strength I get when I pray to God.How does one live through all this violence without His help and comfort? I think it was Ray Comfort who said he thinks one needs a lot more faith to believe there isn't a God.I think he was right.I know people who have lost their children and it is amazing to see how God is there and DOES strengthen and comfort them. One couple blame God-hey at least they believe in Him! I know what it feels like to be angry with God.My mom died when I was sixteen and seeing her suffer from cancer, hardened my heart towards God. How could a loving God (the God I always had loved and prayed to from a young age) do this to me? Yet in my anger towards Him I really got to know Him! It turned out amazingly! The more I fought with God the more He did things in my life to draw me closer to Him.I could write a book on the little miracles in my life at that very dark time in my life.Maybe I will :-)

Anyhow, I didn't mean to go on and on so- but I do get excited about God-so forgive me?;-) Hoping this worlds' troubles don't get you down (too much) Take care now !! Love to all my Jland buddies- I LOVE being able to "chat" to you this way!

Rights and Responsibilities

I'm so tired of watching our once capable education system spiral into a  bottomless abyss! Bottomless because I cannot see any light further down the road (abyss).

We in South Africa mourned the death of little Sheldean Human aged 9 who was kidnapped and brutally murdered.A few weeks before, a 5 year old was shot in the head while sitting in her Moms' lap while on a fishing trip. These are just two of the cases of too many to mention!!! We are crying out for the death penalty ( I never used to believe it our right to take anothers' life, for doesn't the Bible say God says "..that vengeance is mine alone...." BUT, at our Bible study we got into this discussion and the Old Testament is clear that the death penalty was put into the law! Someone then said that that was the old testament and that Jesus replaced that law, but this is not true, if you study the Bible.... SOOO I have changed my mind!

Our prisons are overcrowded and the thought of these murderers getting parole later on sends shivers down my spine. I know certain states in the USA do have capital punishment and I wondered if these states see a decline in crime or not?

We have had a gun at school recently (I posted an entry about it) and now we have a Grade 10 DEALING in drugs and the headmaster MAY not expel him! He has been told by the education department that the child has a right to education!!! I agree- but not in that school (or any other for that matter! Maybe in jail or a youth detention centre!) What I see more and more in the classrooms are children who are taught (at home) that they have rights (which is TRUE!!!! )BUT they are NOT being taught that with every right comes a RESPONSIBILITY!!!! I have heard so many complaints from my teacher friends (especially High School) about the way parents over react or defend their children when they have been punished at school! I myself had an incident last week where a child in Gr 2 kicked a boy in my class on the knee so badly that it was swollen for two days and inflamed. The boy was given headmasters detention for a break (30 minutes!) and the Mom went balistic! As a result her son  behaves badly and unfortunately has a reputation as being naughty (is this not his own consequence?) Or his moms'? I believe STRONGLY in rights for children and that they have a voice and use it! I just think that its' the way or tone in which they do it that's important.

Is is just me, or do you see the same decline in discipline (self- that is!!) I really want to be more positive, and there are MANY MANY children who make teaching wonderful. There are MANY MANY children who make it a challenge (which is good too) But there are TOO many parents who coddle their children (to THEIR disadvantage!!!) and don't let them experience the consequences to their actions.

Enough venting now! :-))

On a positive note-yes there is one, short as it is!!

Am loving my class!!!!!!!!! Have such nice parents too. They are supportive and I often get little notes thanking me!!! So its not all doom and gloom-There are MANY MANY parents grateful for the love, time and effort teachers' (most of them) put into their teaching!

Flying could be risky LOL

Find this SOOO funny

Remember it takes a college degree to fly a plane but only a high school
diploma to fix one. Reassurance for those of us who fly routinely in
their jobs.  After every flight, Qantas pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet," which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft.

The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs
on the form, and then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.

Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor.

Here are some actual maintenance complaints submitted by Qantas'pilots ( marked with a P)and the solutions recorded (marked with an S) by maintenance engineers.

By the way, Qantas is the only major airline that has never had an accident.

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.

P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.

P: IFF inoperative.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.

P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.

P: Number 3 engine missing.
